Mikisew Cree First Nation

The Mikisew Cree First Nation have resided in Northeastern Alberta since time immemorial and have lived a traditional lifestyle that includes a close understanding of the natural way of life. The Athabasca Delta is a unique ecosystem and is cherished by the members of MCFN. Members of MCFN rely on “country foods” such as fish, bird and moose and many members continue to live a lifestyle that includes time on the land. When the fur trade came west and established a trading fort in this area, the Mikisew Cree were among those who traded furs.In 1899 Mikisew Cree First Nation signed Treaty 8. MCFN continue their traditional activities and exercise their lifestyle around Fort Chipewyan and hold title interest in Wood Buffalo National Park. The Mikisew Cree First Nation is proud of our heritage, and confident in its bright future.
