Three Nations Energy and ATCO have been recognized once again for Canada’s largest remote solar farm, receiving a prestigious Emerald Award. The Alberta Emerald Foundation has recognized examples of environmental excellence in Alberta for the last 30 years.

The Emerald Awards are divided into 13 categories, and include projects related to air, water, infrastructure, youth, energy and more. Three Nations Energy won the 2021 Emerald Award in the Energy category. They were recognized for charting a path to a sustainable future with the construction of Fort Chipewyan’s off-grid solar farm & energy storage.

The project continues to be an example of how Indigenous communities and industry can benefit from working together on environmentally friendly and sustainable projects.  The solar farm has lowered Fort Chipewyan’s carbon footprint and is a step toward energy sovereignty as the community becomes increasingly self-sufficient.

ATCO Electric’s President, Melanie Bayley, accepted the award on behalf of ATCO and Three Nations Energy and extended sincere congratulations to Three Nations Energy in her comments.
